Actor on the rise Dallas Liu is quickly becoming one to watch in the entertainment industry through the diverse and dynamic characters he has brought to life on screen. In 2024 Liu can be seen starring
in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the beloved animated series, “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Liu appeared throughout the series as the iconic Prince Zuko, alongside a star-studded cast that includes Daniel Dae Kim, Paul Sun- Hyung, Ken Leung, and Elizabeth Yu. The series follows Aang, the young Avatar, as he learns to master the four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air) to restore balance to a world threatened by the terrifying Fire Nation. “Avatar: The Last Airbender” debuted worldwide on Netflix on February 22, 2024, and has already been renewed for seasons two and three.
In film Liu appeared as Ruihua alongside Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh and Ben Kingsley in Disney/ Marvel’s blockbuster superhero feature film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” (2021). The movie garnered a slew of award nominations including an Oscar nom, while raking in over 432 million dollars globally at the box office.
On the television front Liu was recently seen on the critically acclaimed and award-nominated Hulu comedy series “PEN15.” Executive produced by Andy Samberg and created by actors, Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle, the show was set in the year 2000 and follows two seventh grade girls, Maya Ishii-Peters (Erskine) and Anna Kone (Konkle). Liu was a scene stealer as Maya’s older brother, Shuji Ishii-Peters, with BuzzFeed praising his performance – “[Shuji] is perfectly played by Dallas Liu.” Liu also starred opposite Stella Hudgens as Taylor King in the Snapchat young-adult drama series, “Players” which followed students at an elite Los Angeles high school.
Additional credits for Liu include Disney’s “The Slumber Party,” Netflix’s “The Who Was? Show” and “No Good Nick,” Nickelodeon’s “Legendary Dudas,” CBS’ “CSI: Cyber,” FOX’s “Bones,” the drama short “Ella” alongside Nichole Bloom (NBC’s “Superstore”) and the feature film “Underdog Kids.”
Born and raised in Los Angeles, as a child Liu began training in mixed martial arts. He launched his training in Japanese Shotokan and eventually competed in the NASKA (North American Sport Karate Association) circuit, becoming a top competitor for age in all divisions. Due to his unparalleled martial arts skills, at just seven years old he was chosen to play young Jin Kazama in the acclaimed “Tekken” film franchise. This sparked Liu’s passion for acting, and he began his professional career at 12 years old. In addition to booking guest starring roles on major network television shows, Liu landed various commercial roles for Macy’s, Heely’s, IBM, and Kellogg’s Eggo. He has been working ever since.
Liu is currently enrolled in college studying civil engineering. When he is not on set, he enjoys spending time with his family, hanging out with his friends, going to the gym, and rock climbing.
